Comfort and Vision for Difficult Eyes
Scleral Contact Lenses in Centennial
When the cornea is too irregular for ordinary lenses, a scleral lens can bring vision and comfort back. At Hamilton Vision Center, we fit scleral lenses for keratoconus, corneas scarred by surgery or injury, and eyes so dry that nothing else feels good. If other lenses have failed you, this is often the answer.
How Scleral Lenses Work
A scleral lens is larger than a regular contact. Instead of resting on the sensitive cornea, it vaults right over it and lands gently on the white of the eye. The space underneath fills with saline, creating a smooth optical surface and a constant bath of fluid. That is why sclerals give sharp vision on an irregular cornea and soothing comfort for a very dry eye.
Relief for Keratoconus
Keratoconus thins and steepens the cornea, so glasses and soft lenses stop working well. A scleral lens replaces that warped front surface with a perfectly smooth one, and many patients see better than they have in years. We map your cornea with the Oculus Keratograph and design a lens that matches its unique shape.
Who Scleral Lenses Help
Scleral lenses are often the answer for:
- Keratoconus and other corneal thinning
- Irregular corneas after LASIK, transplant, or injury
- Severe dry eye and ocular surface disease
- High astigmatism that soft lenses cannot correct
- Anyone who failed with standard or specialty lenses
A Careful, Guided Fitting
Fitting a scleral lens is precise work. We use imaging to design the first lens, then check how it sits and refine the shape until the vault and comfort are right. We also teach you how to fill, insert, and remove the lens, which takes a little practice and quickly becomes routine. We stay with you until it feels easy.
Referrals Welcome
Corneal specialists and other optometrists send their toughest fits to us, and we keep referring eye doctors in the loop throughout care. Scleral lenses are often covered by medical insurance when they are medically necessary, such as for keratoconus, and we can help you understand your benefits. If a surgeon or eye doctor suggested scleral lenses, we can take it from here. Not sure where to start? Reach out to our Centennial office and we will walk you through it.
