Myopia Management
Myopia, or nearsightedness, occurs when the eye grows too long, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. While glasses and contact lenses correct blurry distance vision, they do not slow the progression of myopia. Managing myopia in children is important because higher prescriptions increase the risk of serious eye diseases later in life, including retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
We offer several proven methods of myopia management:
Atropine eye drops (low-dose) – Used nightly to help slow eye growth and reduce prescription progression.
MiSight® soft contact lenses – FDA-approved daily disposable lenses designed specifically to slow myopia in children.
Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT or Ortho-K) – Special overnight contact lenses that reshape the cornea while you sleep, providing clear vision during the day without glasses or contacts, and helping slow progression.
Future treatments are under study but not yet FDA-approved in the U.S. These include new lens designs, higher-efficacy pharmaceutical options, and light-based therapies that may provide additional ways to control eye growth.By beginning myopia management early, we can help protect long-term eye health and reduce the risks associated with high myopia.
